How are the mighty fallen?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I got fed up with getting emails from Quark trying to promote their latest offer today, and hit the unsubscribe button. This took me to the Quark website where the main Flash animation makes the point that 20 years ago Quark revolutionised the DTP world.

Um, notice something about the date that they are using as nowadays – 2008? Hello, what year are we in?

I think that sort of sums up where Quark now is. Stuck somewhere in 2008 and never to regain the ground that Adobe have stolen from them.

Quark was the first program that I truly got to grips with and I was an advocate for years, but Creative Suite is just so much better and easier to work with. Adieu old friend, you got me out of many a scrape (but also I swore at you when I was trying to get a simple PDF out, or print a postscript file in a hurry – or got that dreaded End of File message!) and I won’t be back. Just like so many others in the industry.
